Plus Size Fashion; Find Your Color

Plus Size Colors

What is the proper color for your body? You might think you look good in pastels when your “true” color should be warmer hues, such as browns. The colors you wear can make or break your look. Color can enhance your facial features, eye color and shape of your body. It can also work against you by accentuating the negative and even changing the perception of your natural coloring.  A person’s favorite color to wear is often the worst possible color for their natural appearance.

Plus Size Shapes

Color can hide or reshape your body’s natural appearance. Think of light and dark, shadows and lighter areas. Many women are concerned about their breasts; are they too big or too small?  To enhance with color, you should choose a dark solid color for your pants or skirt and a print or bold color on top.

If you want to draw attention away from your hip area, don’t automatically go with all dark colors. To camouflage bulges or areas you wish to hide you need to accentuate somewhere else. Use patterns for accent. The reason this works is because the prints actually draw the eye to the pattern of the fabric rather than to the shape of your body.

Color is not an exact science. Use mirrors and experiment and always get an honest friend to help you find your true plus-size color and pattern. The key is illusion. When you look in the mirror, which part of your body do you want accentuated and which part do you want hidden? Think of one of those eye exercises where they hide a number inside a bunch of colors. As you dress and choose your colors, use those hues that will hide the “number” you want hidden and vice versa. Only you can know your true color, even if you don’t yet know it.
