Plus Sized, Pear Shaped and Beautiful!

No two women are the same, though there can be some generalizations when it comes to body types.  It is important to be familiar with different body types, most importantly your own, in order to choose the right styles and cuts to look and feel your best.

One of the common Plus Sized body types is the Pear Figure.  A pear figure is, as its name suggests, reminiscent of the shape of a pear.  Slimmer on the top, fuller on the bottom.

Some of the most common markers of a Plus Sized woman with a Pear Figure are:

  • A bottom heavy shape
  • Thin and slender neck
  • Narrow or sloping shoulders
  • Larger and more generous lower hips and thighs

The trick to successfully and beautifully accenting the Pear body figure is to work on balancing the overall contours of your body while accentuating those areas that make you feel your best.  The first step is all about balance.

Because a Pear figure is all about a smaller upper body, finding ways to maximize the appearance of your upper body and draw the attention to those areas.  This can be accomplished by choosing styles that include wide necklines.  Wide necklines are used in cuts such as a boatneck or scoopneck style.  These styles will widen the appearance of your shoulders and collar bone, giving them more “weight” in the overall balance of your figure.

In short, as your upper body looks slightly wider, your lower body will look slightly smaller, and the overall appearance will have a more natural symmetry.
